Developmental Pathway
Theory of Developmental Pathway
Mathematical thinking follows natural developmental pathways, firstly represented intuitively, then with language, followed by metacognitive understanding and lastly using understanding to do appropriate mathematical tasks (Sarama, Clements. 2009). The developmental pathway constructed for this topic takes influence form both the natural pathways as well as the Piaget constructivist theory; which is depicted as an approach to learning that embeds the acknowledgement and assessment of prior learning, the scaffolded delivery of tasks and the inclusion of motivating activities (Siemon, Bleckly, & Neal).
